Carole McLeod


Carole McLeod is a certified bereavement facilitator with more than forty years of experience. In June 2011 she founded Grief Matters, a grief service for anyone who is grieving the death of a loved one and an educational resource for caregivers.

Carole and her husband Alan were owners of the Alan R. McLeod Funeral Chapel, St. Petersburg for 25 years. In 1985 they founded the grief support group The Comfort Circle. In 1994 they merged with Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes and Carole became their Continuing Care Coordinator and Bereavement Facilitator for 17 years. In that capacity Carole, founded a holiday memorial program, the Tree of Memories, and seminar for professionals with Dr. Alan D.Wolfelt, Ph D.

Carole received the PACE Award in 2006 from Pinellas Enrichment Through Mental Health for her work with bereaved, and she serves on the Advisory Council for the Area Agency on Aging Pasco and Pinellas. She is an active member of the Better Living for Seniors Consortium. Carole also served on the Board of the Friends of Board of the Sunshine Senior Center.

As president of Grief Matters she writes many articles about grief/mourning -- see our Resources page. Carole speaks to church groups, senior centers, retirement communities and support groups. Grief Matters also includes a widow’s social group, Widows on the Way; presently the organization has a membership of over fifty. They meet for monthly dinners visiting a different restaurant each month.

Carole earned her bereavement certification from the American Academy of Bereavement and has studied with Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt for many years attending his Center for Loss and Life Transition training workshops in Ft. Collins, CO.

Personally Carole is a widow. Her late husband, Alan died in 1999. She has two children, two grandchildren and two great- granddaughters. She has been a member of the Suncoast Community Women’s Club for over 30 years and enjoys fishing and is a charter member of the Adventurous Women Clubs and member of the Old Salts Fishing Club.
